Kris Christine, The Rabies Challenge Fund reports that on December 7 the city council of Waco, TX has unanimously approved an ordinance extending rabies vaccination to every three years. The ordinance should be in effect 10 days after it is published.
"Ordinance #2010-696; amending sections 5-61 (a) in Chapter 5, Animals, of the Code of Ordinances, to change the rabies vaccinations requirement from annual to every three (3) years... Second Reading. Approved 5-0"
The three year rabies protocol conforms with Texas department of Public Health guidelines established in 2003 and with the guidelines set by the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians (NASPHV) to ensure public compliance with rabies prevention and control law.
